Best Chromebooks for Students in 2018

Chromebooks are perfect for students: they are lightweight, fast, cheap and they get the job done. More and more students are now switching to Chromebooks because of the aforementioned reasons and, even though you can’t play games on them and you can’t get everything you would from a Windows laptop or computer, they are still the perfect choice for students. But which are the best Chromebooks for students in 2018? We’re here to answer that question for you!

In case you didn’t know, Chromebooks are made to take advantage of the power of the internet. You will basically have access to Google Chrome and from there to any and all online services you need. You can now install Android apps on some Chromebooks as well and watch Netflix. So really, what more do you need?

There are tens – if not hundreds – of Chromebook models out there and we’re here to share with you the best of the best. Most of them have similar configurations and are optimized to keep the price as low as possible, but this doesn’t mean that some are better than the others. We’re here to talk about the latter, so let’s check out below the best Chromebooks for Students in 2018!

Best Small Screen Chromebook: Acer Chromebook 11

If all that you need is a highly portable, ultra light and small Chromebook, then you have a lot of options as that’s exactly what most Chromebooks deliver. But if we were to choose one, we’d go for the Acer Chromebook 11. It is extremely cheap (normally sold at under $200) but packs quite a punch in its small body.

Standing at 11.6″ and weighting just 2.40 lbs (1.1 kg), this beautiful Chromebook can run for up to 9 hours straight, which gives you enough time to go through a day at school or binge-watch your favorite shows on Netflix.

It is powered by an Intel Celeron N2840 Dual-Core Processor running at 2.16GHz – which is not extremely impressive, but since you won’t be able to run games on it anyway, it’s more than enough for a decent performance. It also has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of SSD storage space – most Chromebooks offer low storage to keep the costs low, but you’ll store anything in the cloud anyway!

This Chromebook also has some other goodies for you, if you need them: an anti-glare display, an HD webcam, SD card reader, 2 USB slots and an HDMI port. A very good product, overall, selling at a price you simply can’t beat! Plus, it looks absolutely amazing!

Best all-around Chromebook: ASUS Chromebook C301SA-DB04

If you are like me and consider an 11.6-inch Chromebook to be too small – which happens if you have larger hands or clumsy fingers like I do – then a 13.3-inch Chromebook would be the best choice. It’s not too small, but it doesn’t get too big either, remaining light and portable, but offering a bit more space both in terms of display and for the keys.

This particular model really fits our needs: it is powered by a quad-core Intel Celeron processor which is more than enough for a Chromebook, it has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of SSD storage. It is fast, reliable and thin. And the US model that we’re talking about here also offers full HD resolution, which makes everything look better on the screen!

It has a rugged design and it is made to last thanks to its reinforced metal chassis, but it only weights 3 lbs (1.3 kg), making it extremely comfortable when it comes to carrying it all day. And you can really get an “all day” run from it since the battery runs for up to 11 hours on a single charge! A really good all-around Chromebook for the money!

Best Large Screen Chromebook: Acer Chromebook 15

If you think that bigger is better, then we’ve got you covered as well. This is a 15.6″ Chromebook and this is the regular size of a traditional laptop. It has a large screen and a nicely sized keyboard, meaning that you will be in a more familiar territory if you make the switch from a traditional laptop or desktop computer.

In terms of performance, the model in question – the CB5-571-362Q (so not the one in the UK & Europe link) has a powerful Intel Core i3-5005U processor, 4GB of RAM and offers a solid amount of storage at 32GB. It has good battery life too – up to 9 hours under regular usage.

This large Chromebook is understandably heavier than its smaller siblings – weighting about 4.9 lbs (2.2 kg) but it still can’t be considered insanely heavy. It’s a compromise you’ll have to make if you want the larger screen.
