Now let’s move on and see all the details for our recommended budget walk behind lawn mowers below!

1. Sun Joe Electric Lawn Mower

If the budget is tight, I would recommend going for the Mow Joe from Sun Joe. This is our top rated Budget Pick lawn mower– the cheapest product that still offers a ton of value for the money!

It allows you to quickly and efficiently mow your lawn and it is best suited, in my opinion, for smaller yards and maintenance jobs. I say this because it is an electrical mower with a smaller, 14-inch steel blade.

But don’t just run away from it, even though it’s corded! It does a good job and it’s very durable, so the fact that you need a cord is just a minor CON. Another one is that it’s a bit loud – but not loud enough to require headphones, fortunately.

This push lawn mower has three positions for adjusting the cutting heights of the grass and also comes with a 10.6-gallon hard-top rear bag for collecting the grass – but you can also remove it if you don’t want it.

A really nice thing about it – one that also says a lot about its durability and quality – is that it benefits from the Snow Joe + Sun Joe 2 year warranty for new, powered products – no questions asked.

Have in mind though that it doesn’t come with a cord so if you don’t have a long one already available, you will have to purchase that as well. I recommend a 14 or 12 gauge extension cord in order to increase its life. This way, you will keep the motor alive for years and you’ll have no complaints for this extremely cheap but highly useful push lawn mower.

2. GreenWorks 20″ Electric Mower

This is actually the #1 recommendation on our list and the best budget push / walk-behind lawnmower that we have to recommend. It’s also one of the best selling walk behind land mowers on Amazon at the moment of writing this article, with a rating of 4.3 out of 5, with over 4,300 reviews!

This definitely says a lot of our quality – and we rate it 5 out of 5, even though it’s a bit more expensive than the previous: it does know a lot more tricks and it’s much more useful, overall.

For starters, it has 7 height adjustments when it comes to cutting grass, as well as multiple options for grass clippings from rear bagging, side discharge and mulching capabilities, which is extremely nice. It has a large 20″ Cutting width, which makes it a great choice for larger yards as well. Ideal size, I would say!

The downside is that it’s also a corded lawn mower, so you again have to get an extension cord (I recommend the 14 gauge or 12 gauge one, as I already said!) but that’s really not a big Con in my opinion, as long as this lawn mower gets the job done – and it does so quickly and nicely.

Plus, it’s also pretty quiet for this price range, so it really ticks all the boxes on our check list. A great product overall, one you will be very happy with! And coming with 4 years of warranty proves that you indeed get your hands on a really durable product here.

3. Lawn-Boy 17732

Despite the fact that it doesn’t have the catchiest name of them all (17732), this Lawn-Boy lawnmower is a great choice, especially for those who don’t want a corded mower: it’s gas powered instead and working really nice thanks to the Kohler 149cc / 6.5 ft.-lbs. Gross Torque / OHV engine.

It’s very easy to mow your yard with it and extremely easy to maneuver. It also has a really large bag so you don’t have to empty it too often, and two extra modes that allow for mulching or side discharge. It’s pretty wide too, with its 21-inch blade.

As a downside, it only has two heights for the grass cutting options, but in the end this is not a big problem in my opinion. What matters the most is that it’s gas powered, so it’s easy to move it around without having to worry about the cord, it does a good job and can go through higher or thicker grass without any problem.

Some reviewers have complained that it’s not extremely durable, reporting problems with the front wheels.

All in all, we would consider the Lawn Boy a very good choice for a lawnmower under $300 – one that is not corded!

4. American Lawn Mower

Those of us who have a few (well, more) years under our belts will certainly get very nostalgic when seeing this old school mower. And somtimes, this is exactly what you need – and nothing more.

This American Lawn Mower Company push land mower is a budget pick with all the pros that you can expect from a manual mower. It has a decent size of 16-inches and a 5-Blade ball bearing reel for precision cutting.

It also has adjustable cutting heights – 0.5″-2.5″ – and is not only eco-friendly, but also safer than others and a great tool to get your kids started with lawn mowing. Or just perfect for you to take a trip back to the past and let the sound made by the mower – as well as the smell of grass – bring back all those sweet memories!

It is extremely durable and nice and definitely the best choice if you’re looking for a cheap mower that requires no oil or electricity.
