I got my first coloring book for adults in December 2015 as a Christmas gift, without even knowing that such amazing things actually exist – and today I can say that I am their biggest fan. Coloring as an adult relieves stress and relaxes me like few other things do. The art (because I can’t call the patterns anything else) in these adult coloring books are also amazing and contribute to the overall feeling of accomplishment when you complete your complex masterpiece and once you start you’ll become a fan, instantly.
And since there are a ton of options out there when it comes to coloring books for adults, I’ve decided to share with you my top pick: the best 10 coloring books for adults in 2016 (at least!) that you have to try. I would recommend to only purchase two or three books to start with unless you know that you have a lot of free time to dedicate to this relaxing experience: coloring these complex drawings takes a lot of time, so you don’t really need a lot of books to keep you busy for a long time! Now let’s check out below the most amazing adult coloring books below!
Enchanted Forest by Johanna Basford
Absolutely beautiful drawings which are complex and rewarding. This is actually the first coloring book for adults that I received as a gift and I got hooked instantly. So click here to check it out and buy it – also consider getting the trilogy from the same illustrator (Enchanted Forest, Secret Garden and Lost Ocean) and you’ll be set for an unforgettable, relaxing experience.
Adult Coloring Book Designs
This is the #1 best selling adults coloring book on Amazon and I am sure that says a lot about its quality. It was my second coloring book and I loved it because it was so different than Enchanted Forest, yet similar and amazingly relaxing. Beautiful floral designs, animals and Mandalas (figures representing the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism) will reward you with a great time and unique works! Click here to check it out.
Good Vibes Coloring Book – Thaneeya McArdle
I love this book because it takes inspirational messages and turns then into real works of art that YOU color. They are great, they are fun and you will get even more motivated to do stuff right and make your life better while drawing. Highly recommended! Click here to buy it.
A Game of Thrones Coloring Book
I am placing this here mostly because I am a huge GoT fan and unless you are one, you should stay away from this particular book. Unlike most coloring books for adults, this doesn’t come with excessive geometrical forms and shapes and areas for you to color, but it still remains pretty complex to entertain and relax. Also, have in mind that the drawings are based on the novel and not the TV series (so the characters don’t really look like the ones on TV), but it still offers a great experience for Game of Thrones fans and allows you to be part of the universe and bring it to life with your colors. Which is pretty nice, I’d say! Click here to check it out and decide if this is for you or not. It was for me, for sure!
Mandala Coloring Book for Stress Relief
As I said before, Mandalas are figures representing the universe in Hindu and Budhist symbolism and this particular book is filled with amazing Mandalas for you to color for stress relief and relaxation. The images are not as complex as they are in some other coloring books for adults, so have that in mind when ordering (on the other hand, this is great if you don’t have that much time for this activity and you still want to finish the pages relatively fast). Click here to check it out.
Butterflies and Flowers – Cherina Kohey
If you like butterflies and flowers, then this is the perfect book for you as it mixes both with style. Complex and delightfully cheerful make the pages of this adults coloring book a complete experience that will boost your mood and make you feel a lot better. Click here to buy it from Amazon!
Owls – Marjorie Sarnat
You don’t have to be a Harry Potter fan to love owls or this book (although it does help!) Beautiful designs, magical places and complex pages await in this great book for relaxation. Give it a try here.
Created by Rosie Goodwin and Alice Chadwick, this coloring book for adults comes like a breath of fresh air with the new designs it offers: take a break from coloring nature-inspired models and Mandalas and bring to life entire cities. It’s amazing, trust me, and you can see for yourself by clicking here (to find our more about this book and buy it).
Steampunk Designs – Marty Noble
I love everything steampunk and you can imagine that I was extremely happy when I found this book created by Marty Noble. Beautiful scenes and all the details a steampunk fan would love to draw. Bonus: you don’t even have to be a steampunk fan in order to really appreciate this book! Click here to check it out.
Today Is Going To Be A Great Day
Religion and inspirational quotes are sprinkled nicely on top of the designs offered by this book and many will agree that it helps even more when it comes to de-stressing and being inspired. It also has some nice additions – like gift tags or bookmarks for you to color and cut and is, overall, a great coloring book for adults, just like all the others that made it on our list!
